Facilities for R&D - Centres of Excellence and Microenterprises
MIT has set up Centres of Excellence and Microenterprises to serve academic, industrial and societal needs.
Micro Enterprise @MIT
Micro-Enterprise at MIT is a new way of thinking about resources and responsibility. MIT is setting up laboratories and facilities to render some service of value to the industry or community. This can be to develop a product or find solutions. The user takes responsibility to use resources productively and generate some surplus. In this sense, microenterprise encourages people to be responsible for what they do with their resources. It rewards performers by giving them the authority to spend the resources they generated.

Marathwada MedTech Lab is established with funding and mentoring from Bio-Technology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), established under the National Biopharma Mission. It offers an immense advantage of the connection to the researchers and mentors at the national level.
It is equipped with 3D printers, electronics, and metal processing facilities.
This NABL accredited facility can be used to conduct analytical studies. Facilities include GC MS, HPLC, ICP-OES, AAS & Environmental Testing set up, which can serve industries like agriculture, food, pesticides, fertilizer, polymer, pharma, biotechnology, etc.
This facility is equipped with material characterization instruments like FTIR, DSC, TGA, DLS, UV-Vis Spectrophotometer, Zetasizer, to serve pharmaceutical, plastic, polymer, rubber, and many industries.
This facility is for Production Training. Application studies on material behaviour can be conducted in this facility. Mould, dies, zigs, fixtures could be designed and tested here.
Non Destructive Testing and Structural Audits for civil construction facility have facilities like Silver Schmidt PC type N rebound hammer, Pundit PL-200 ultrasonic pulse velocity testing machine, ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV), profometer PM-650, rebar profometer corrosion, rebar locator, and cover meter, material testing UTM & CTM.
This centre has a Kuka robot which can be used to develop end test newer machining programs and develop newer manufacturing techniques.
Agricultural Research and Demonstration Centre (ARDC)
This centre is set up with Israeli collaboration. Agriculture engineering, food technology, electronics and communication, biotechnology-related activities could be carried in this facility.
This project’s main objectives are to improve agronomy practices, crop yield, farm input quantity and cost reduction, reduction in fertilizer, pesticides, fungicides and herbicides consumption, post-harvest technology demonstration and application, tissue culture, introducing IoT and precision agriculture techniques leading to improved income for farmers.
Open source academy is a program designed to mentor students in learning open source technology, giving consultancy services, and developing projects using open-source language, database, tools, and operating system – cloud data and creating new applications on such platforms.
